Maker vs. Artist

I think especially during the holiday season we are constantly face with this issue and I am curious how others address it....

So... I I had one of my many epiphanies last night that I wanted to do more"experimenting" and allow my work to evolve further... I feel like my pieces are too hard... I know you're thinking..."hard"?????They are ceramic... of course the are hard... but I feel like the spontaneity...the wetness and fluidness of clay had left what first drew me into ripping and shifting the clay and now with more structural knowledge I want to bring it back... the return of the rip... but now I can refine the rip... a structured organic feeling.... Tell me what you think...

Some thoughts

My computer is on the blink and outr new one is coming... so there isn't alot of photo imagery that I can post.....
I WON the EMT AUTUMN CHALLENGE(I'm currently doing doing the winners dance in my own mind)
My sale is coming up last week of November... doing The Ranney School Ladies Night Out as a Vendor November 15th, so we'll see how that goes... The Laurel Tracey Gallery has requested some work for a show(group,etc) during the holiday season...
I'm going to the OLD CHURCH CULTURAL CENTER INVITATIONAL(as a customer) in Demerest, NJ on November 30th... so excited to see these AWESOME ceramic artists and KAREN KARNES in real life... It is a great show... I went last year and basically I spend the proceeds from my show on their work!

Some work completed based on Peter's Valley requests

So...I developed these based on requests made by customers at the show.... I am pleased with the work....
The sugar and creamer,the cake plate, and the teaset are sold... the cream coffee and tea servers are not..if you are interested contact me!

Commentary on this Blog

Ok....so.... when I started this, this BLOG-thing, I thought... this will strictly be used for updating photos of my work and giving info on shows, competitions etc... but I will try something new now. Frankly, secretly, and not SOOOO secretly, I follow quite a few blogs.... mainly potters but the occasional knitter is of interest to me. Working in a fairly solo environment, in my home studio,however< leaves one to be interested in others' comments, thoughts and CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. Therefore... I may start to write more frequently...for a while at least... and see how it feels I will refrain from too much complaining as I can do that in my hand written journal... I will still use this for updates and new work photos but perhaps I'll throw in a few other thoughts and of course I WELCOME COMMENTS. So, let's go.
The above coffee pot, teapot, sugar and creamer set(Greenware) is based on a request at the Peters Valley Craft Show... If nothing comes of it...It goes into my for sale work!!!
